REC: Advanced Spraying Glazes: Atmospheric Effects for Electric Firing: An In-Depth Exploration – with Steven Hill
Recorded on Sunday, October 4, 2020
Video duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes
Steven will explain his system of layering multiple contrasting glazes to achieve the depth of surface and color in midrange electric firing that routinely occurs in high fire reduction and atmospheric firing. This covers a set of personal guidelines that he applies across his body of work, as he sprays 4-7 glazes on each of his pots. By following these guidelines, it allows Steven to achieve a cohesive look throughout his body of work. There is, however, plenty of opportunity for everyone who sprays layers to come up with a unique plan of action.
Microcrystals play a critical role in the illusion that Steven creates and he will discuss how he encourages their development through extended cooling cycles, careful formulation, and lots of experimentation.
Steven will also glaze a few pots so you can, once again, see up close, the visual cues that guide him while glazing.
One of Steven’s top discoveries in spraying equipment has been the DeVilbiss, DeKups spraying system. These containers have revolutionized the operation of gravity spray guns and he will explain why he’s embraced them.
You won't want to miss the opportunity to see this master potter and distinguished workshop presenter in his element!
